Objectives

  • Acquire the essential knowledge about the main erythrocyte blood group systems and learn the basic techniques in immuno-hematology in accordance with regulations.
  • Be able to interpret the results of these techniques and solve simple immuno-hematological problems.

  • Concept of erythrocyte blood group systems.
  • International Nomenclature.
  • Basic immunogenetics of blood group systems: ABO, H, RH, KEL, FY (Duffy), JK (Kidd), MNS.
  • Good laboratory practices in immuno-hematology
  • The Antigen-Antibody reaction
  • Hemolytic disease of the newborn
  • Practical work or laboratory exercises
  • Difficulties in ABO-RH-KEL1 blood typing
  • Applications of direct and indirect antiglobulin tests
  • RAI (Detection of a single antibody)
  • Elution
